Official statement from the Duero-Douro EGTC about false information on the membership

The Duero-Douro EGTC has sent a letter to all municipalities of Salamanca with an official statement about the false information that a newspaper from Salamanca repeatedly published on this entity.

Duero-Douro wants, through this newsletter, to extend the content of the statement to the other members of the EGTC, which may not have been aware of these facts, having been published in local media.

On February 24, that newspaper published this headline: "Duero-Douro falls apart with the departure of 40% of the founders."

This statement is an outright falsehood, of course, all members know, but it is being used to unfairly damage the EGTC.

Members present during the celebration of the last General Assembly last December

Someone is using the tactic of repeating a lie often enough to try to make it true.

Initially, the EGTC was composed of 170 members, so that 40% would mean the departure of 68 municipalities. Not reach the low thirties, so the information published is categorically false. To be precise, 18% of the municipalities’ founders have left the EGTC.

Fortunately, since 2009 until today, have entered 33 new members that make the Grouping enjoys a healthy internal and that today it has more members than in the Constituent Assembly during March 2009.

51,000 euros in outstanding contributions

As an example, we have sent a list of some of the villages which have left the Duero-Douro EGTC, detailing the fees paid by these before disengaging.

Towns that once were part of the EGTC as Barruecopardo, Ahigal de los Aceiteros, Aldea del Obispo, Castillejo de Martín Viejo, El Milano, Fuenteliante, La Fregeneda, La Redonda, La Zarza de Pumareda, Olmedo de Camaces, Peralejos de Abajo, Pereña de la Ribera, Saucelle, Sobradillo, Villar de Peralonso o Villares de Yeltes,, among others, left the Association without paying even one of their dues.

The total debt of all the casualties of the EGTC amounts to 51,000 euros.

Ten active projects

The foundation aims of the EGTC are the implementation of cooperation activities that enhance the cohesion of the villages of its territory.

Thus, Duero-Douro continues to work with 4 educational programs that cover more than 500 students from Portugal and Spain each year, has initiated the project of recovery of goat on the border with the first farm open since last December in Robleda, is renewing street lighting systems in 62 municipalities to achieve 40% energy savings and  criteria of efficiency, is carrying out the technical reports of the proceedings of Frontera Natural with 100 spaces to be recovered in 100 villages of  the territory, it  continues its microcredit program to encourage entrepreneurial activity, and soon will launch two new projects recently awarded: one to promote the employability of young people in the border, and another to boost electronic geoadministration on local administration.
